PSI staff and interns in the media

The PSI-sponsored summer intern program is featured this week in a story on the University of Washington Tacoma website, “Interning for a greener future at Center for Urban Waters.” You can also read about PSI’s Managing Editor Jeff Rice in a recent profile in Outside magazine.

The Center for Urban Water’s student interns were profiled by UW Tacoma writer Debby Abe, who wrote: “Talk of stormwater and storm drains sounds so gray, so grimy, so boring. Yet mention stormwater to UW Tacoma’s Brian Hite, Jacob Moore and John Pelerine, and get set for an animated discussion on rain gardens, pollution’s deadly effect on baby salmon, and research that may someday lead to cleaner waters in Puget Sound.”

PSI Managing Editor Jeff Rice was featured in the November 2011 issue of Outside magazine. Read it on the newsstand or view the story online at: http://www.outsideonline.com/outdoor-adventure/natural-intelligence/You-Need-to-Hear-This.html?page=all. Prior to joining the Puget Sound Institute, Rice was on the library faculty at the University of Utah, where he co-founded and developed the Western Soundscape Archive, an online collection of recordings of Western animal sounds and related environments.

Rice continues his interest in natural sounds and notes that he is currently obsessed with seabird recordings from the Salish Sea. Please contact him if you have any of these or other types of recordings you would like to make available for him to post on the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Puget Sound.
