Puget Sound Science Review is launched

Puget Sound Science logoIn October, the Puget Sound Institute formally launched the Puget Sound Science Review, an online publication aimed at synthesizing key scientific findings related to protection and restoration of the greater Salish Sea ecosystem. Visit the Review at: www.pugetsoundscience.org.

The Puget Sound Science Review is a new collaboration that brings together a type of living, breathing information ecosystem. Access to the most relevant and up-to-date scientific information is vital to researchers and policymakers working to protect and restore Puget Sound. The Review is a web-based, moderated document representing the collective knowledge of leading authorities from state and federal agencies, academic institutions and Puget Sound area tribes. It is intended as a primary source for synthesized and integrated scientific information on the Puget Sound watershed.

The Review is managed by the Puget Sound Institute at the University of Washington, and will eventually become part of the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Puget Sound, an online portal featuring a wide variety of vetted source materials ranging from articles to maps and multimedia contributed by the Puget Sound science community.

In its first phase, the Review builds upon and adapts work completed as part of the Puget Sound Partnership’s April 2011 Puget Sound Science Update, a state-of-the-science document “synthesizing existing, peer-reviewed scientific information on specific topics identified by policy leaders [Puget Sound Science Update Synthesis 2010].” The completed chapters from that effort are represented in modified and updated form as part of a collaborative agreement with the Puget Sound Partnership. The chapters include more than 700 pages of peer-reviewed analysis and state-of-the-science documentation from across a variety of disciplines.

As it develops, the Review will update this core content and will become important source material to the Puget Sound Partnership as they periodically renew their legislatively mandated reporting and analysis.
