The Puget Sound Institute is pleased to announce the formation of a nine-member editorial board to guide the recently launched Encyclopedia of Puget Sound (www.eopugetsound.org). The board first convened on October 24th at a reception and workshop on the University of Washington Seattle campus, and includes prominent authorities from agencies, academic institutions and other organizations working in Puget Sound.

The Encyclopedia of Puget Sound is an online publication of the Puget Sound Institute, and features reviews and syntheses of key science about the ecosystem. The board will curate topics representing the biology, chemistry, physics and human dimensions of the region.

The board will draw on a network of contributors from throughout the Puget Sound science community, and will help strengthen collaborations with agencies such as the Puget Sound Partnership. Board members will each curate topics related to their expertise, and will guide the gathering and review of content in these sections. The Encyclopedia of Puget Sound editorial board for 2012-2013 includes:

Biology

• Uplands: Timothy Quinn, Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife
• Fishes: Charles Simenstad, University of Washington School of Aquatic and Fishery Sciences

Chemistry: Joel Baker, University of Washington Puget Sound Institute

Physical Environment: Parker MacCready, University of Washington School of Oceanography

Social and Economic Sciences: Patrick Christie, University of Washington School of Marine and Environmental Affairs

Ecosystem-based Management: Mary Ruckelshaus, Stanford University, Natural Capital Project

Climate Change: Nate Mantua and Amy Snover, University of Washington Climate Impacts Group

As the Encyclopedia of Puget Sound develops, the board will help guide a process of peer review for the Encyclopedia and will facilitate a series of critical reviews in their topic areas.
