Co-hosted with Fisheries & Oceans Canada
The Salish Sea Science Roundtable speaker series continues on Tuesday, October 1 from 12:30 – 1:30 pm.
Climate change is considered a leading threat to the future sustainability of salmon populations. Salmon can respond to short term climate events using behavioral or physiological means, but long term adaptation to warming climate requires evolutionary change. Kyle Wellband will give an overview of the approaches that Fisheries & Oceans Canada use and some results of ongoing projects they currently have to assess the adaptive potential of Chinook Salmon populations. The results of their work will contribute to understanding the capacity of Chinook Salmon to respond to climate change.
Roundtables occur virtually on the first Tuesday of each month as a way to share emerging science that is shaping Salish Sea ecosystem recovery.
